So...where's Obama?

On July 16, 2009, one Henry Gates was arrested at his own home when he got into an altercation with to police officers who were investigating a report of an attempted break in. Mr. Gates is black and the officers were white. Within days, the usual suspects were weighing in this being yet another racist incident, and even the President of the United States himself opined, calling the officer (who had an exemplary record and was heavily involved in community outreach and sensitivity training ironically enough) stupid.

On October 21, 2010, one Juan Williams was summarily released from his contract with National Public Radio, and then publicly held up to ridicule by the CEO of NPR at a luncheon event that very same day. Thus far, none of the usual suspects have come rushing to the fore to denounce this as crass racism despite the fact that:

  1. Mr. Williams is a black man
  2. Mr. Williams was the only black man with regular shows on NPR.
  3. The CEO (Vivian Schiller) who made the remarks implying that Mr. Williams was either suffering a psychotic break or seeking publicity, is white.
So, are we to expect that the One will deign to weigh in on this?

(cue crickets)

I thought so....

I've had to fire or layoff people.

Do you know what you do NOT do? Denigrate those people in front of others. Even when the employee fully deserved to be let go, you must at all times be charitable, even if the ex-employee is not.

Schiller deserves to lose her job.

Obama has bumped up trip to depart earlier from the November elections.

Give him credit his team is putting distance on the sinking ship Reid-Pelosi built.

It will interesting how the new makeup will affect the balance of his term. Does he become Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton.
