I'm Angry too

"A society that puts equality - in the sense of equality of outcome - ahead of freedom will end up with neither equality or freedom. The use of force to achieve equality will destroy freedom. On the other hand, a society that puts freedom first will, as a happy by-product, end up with both greater freedom and greater equality. Freedom means diversity but also mobility. It preserves the opportunity for today's less well off to become tomorrow's rich, and in the process, enables almost everyone, from top to bottom, to enjoy a richer and fuller life." -Milton Friedman

I have been following the outrage at the funding cuts to the Status of Women office by the Conservative government.

Yes I am angry. I am angry at all of these 'activists' who claim to be speaking for me, who are playing the victim card, and are quoting statistics which have been discredited ages ago. I'm also angry that Joanne Hussey and her fellow 'angry women' are being disingenuous by deliberately trying to pass themselves off as 'Jane Average and her friends' and the media's complicity in this.

We are Marlo, Carolina, Joanne, Christine and Jane - a group of women in Halifax who are angry about the Harper government's anti-women mandate. Through this campaign, we are reaching out across Canada to women (and those who love them) to join our fight for equality (which Harper has mistakenly declared over).

I failed to see any references at all, on either the website or in any media interviews, to the fact that Joanne just happens to be the Healthy Balance Program Co-Ordinator for the Atlantic Centre of Excellence for Women's Health. Likewise, the 'Angry Women' site is silent on the fact that her friends Marlo (Shinyei), Carolina (Crewe), Christine (Saulnier) and Jane (Moloney) are her co-workers. It is interesting to note that Marlo and Carolina are her subordinates - no potential for confict there. I wonder why they didn't bother with identifying themselves? I can only guess on that one.

So, how am I so sure that these are the ladies in question?

These women are staff at my university. How pathetic. I invited them to come to Dalhousie and see the affirmative action that is in place in favour of women here. Absolutely pathetic of them.

I emailed their site and told them that they have never included stay at home moms nor did Status of women so no they do not represent all WOMEN...
