Pay NO attention to the man behind the curtain....

The internet has been buzzing over the last 24 hours with the leak of several year worth of e-mail as well as a variety of documents, data sets, and computer code from the CRU (Climate Research Unit) of the University of East Anglia. When I came across it, like many others I was wondering if it was a plant. Then Steve McIntyre authenticated correspondance he had sent to CRU which were included in the e-mail file. The CRU also confirmed that the hack occurred on Tuesday and they had been sitting on this as they did not know what had been compromised.

It makes an interesting read. If you want to look over the e-mail portion yourself, you can go here.

While much of it is pretty mundane and filled with jargon, there are references to fiddling with the data (which is anethema to real scientists and engineers), cultivating friendly journalists, interfering with the peer review process to ensure that contrary opinions do not see the light of day in 'reputable' academic journals, and trying to delegitimize any publication that dared to provide any platform to the heretics.

The science is not settled.

I was wary of this too when I spotted it tonight but I will be keeping an eye on the performances. I just linked to a few various places for people to check out themselves.

Love the Wiz ;)
